Yamaha R1 and R1 M likely to be discontinued soon

Yamaha R1Recent reports suggest that Yamaha is preparing to halt production of its renowned litre-class superbikes, the YZF-R1 and R1 M, in Europe. This move is believed to be driven by the significant challenges posed by stringent Euro5+ emission regulations.

Yamaha UK has announced that the company will not pursue the development of Euro5+ compliant versions of the R1 & R1 M. Instead, they intend to shift their focus towards mid-term business and product strategies aimed at future opportunities.

Despite this decision, the deadline for the sale of non-Euro5+ vehicles in Europe remains set for 2025, suggesting that the superbikes may still be available for purchase for a limited period.

Speculation suggests that although the R1 & R1 M models might be discontinued, Yamaha could potentially reintroduce the superbike in the future, potentially as a track-only version. However, there has been no official confirmation of this possibility at present.
