Tata Motors is gearing up to launch its first coupe SUV, the Curvv. According to recent reports, this launch will be followed by the introduction of a new variant of the Tata Nexon, specifically a CNG version, in the Indian market. This expansion aims to broaden the Nexon’s appeal to a wider customer base. The question remains: when will the Nexon CNG be available, and what can customers expect from this new model? Read on for more details.
Tata Nexon CNG: Launch Timeline and Pricing
The Tata Nexon CNG, first showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show earlier this year, is anticipated to be unveiled in September 2024. This model is significant for Tata as it will be the first CNG vehicle to feature a turbo petrol engine, marking a new milestone for the company.
Upon its release, the Nexon CNG will compete with the Maruti Brezza CNG in the compact SUV segment. The price range for the Nexon CNG is expected to be between ₹10.50 lakh and ₹18.50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
Powertrain Details
The Nexon CNG will utilize Tata’s twin CNG cylinder technology, similar to other models in the lineup. However, this model will stand out by pairing the CNG kit with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 118 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque. It is anticipated that the power output in CNG mode will be slightly lower. Initially, Tata is expected to offer the Nexon CNG with a 5-speed manual gearbox, with potential future plans for an automatic transmission.
Additional Features
The Nexon CNG is set to include all the features available in the standard petrol variant, such as a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo and a touch-based AC control panel, which might include a dedicated button for CNG mode. The model will also feature dual 10.25-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and touchscreen system. Tata may introduce additional features to enhance competitiveness in this segment.

Updates to Tata Nexon
Alongside the Nexon CNG launch, Tata Motors is expected to introduce new features in the regular Nexon model. These updates could include a large panoramic sunroof, a 45W type-C charging port at the front, and a frameless IRVM for a more premium feel. While Tata has not confirmed these updates, they are anticipated to help the Nexon regain its leading position in the market.
