A fine of ₹1,000 and a three-month licence suspension awaited two-wheeler riders found without helmets in the city. The Road Transport Authorities (RTA) issued a stern warning to remind riders of the Motor Vehicles Act and Section 194D.
Deputy Transport Commissioner G.C. Raja Ratnam announced in a press release that RTA staff conducted checks across various city locations as part of the enforcement drive. In the current year alone, 1,162 cases were registered for helmetless driving.

City police teams had already been active, checking various spots and issuing e-challans. According to the police, numerous motorists, particularly young people, were frequently caught for riding without helmets and for triple-riding.
