As the most populated country globally and with a tradition of traveling with the whole family, MPVs are bound to be popular in India. While MPVs may not be among the top 10 highest-selling cars in the country, they do sell in significant numbers. They also benefit from being used in fleets for corporate companies or tourism purposes. This article will explore the upcoming MPVs set to be launched soon in India.
New Renault Triber
Although there have been no sightings or information on test mules of the new-gen Triber, Renault has confirmed that an update for the compact MPV is in the works, as it has not seen significant changes since its launch. Renault is also aware of Maruti Suzuki’s plans to release a compact MPV, prompting them to expedite their updates. Currently, the Triber is powered by a 1.0-litre NA petrol engine producing 71bhp and 96Nm of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. It features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a reversing camera, TPMS, and more.
Nissan MPV
Nissan has recently confirmed the launch of five new models in India, one of which will be an MPV. It is anticipated to be based on the Renault Triber, with a design language inspired by the Nissan Magnite but toned down. The interior and features will see some tweaks but will largely remain the same, including roof-mounted AC controls and push-button start. The MPV is expected to use the same 1.0-litre NA petrol engine producing 71bhp and 96Nm, with the transmission options being a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.
New Kia Carnival
The previous generation Kia Carnival was a popular MPV but lacked updates, despite the international version receiving a facelift and generational upgrade. After being discontinued last year in India, a new-generation Kia Carnival is set to be launched, closely resembling the international model in design and features. The exterior design draws heavy inspiration from the Kia EV9, featuring a wider stance and a larger front grille. The interior boasts significant upgrades, including a single curved glass pane housing two 12.3-inch displays, redesigned AC controls, and sophisticated ambient lighting. The 2.0-litre diesel engine is expected to continue, paired with an 8-speed torque converter.
Kia Carens Facelift
The Kia Carens is due for a significant facelift, with spy shots revealing a new front fascia, a split-headlamp setup, and an LED bar connecting the DRLs. The presence of cameras on the ORVMs suggests a 360-degree camera setup might be included. The facelift is expected to add even more features, especially concerning safety, with higher variants potentially benefiting from Level 2 ADAS features. The Carens will retain its existing mechanical setup, featuring a 1.5-litre NA petrol, 1.5-litre diesel, and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engines, along with various transmission options like the 6-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter, iMT, and 7-speed DCT.

Maruti Suzuki Compact MPV
Maruti Suzuki is set to introduce a compact MPV, likely similar to the Suzuki Spacia available in Japan, albeit slightly longer but still under 4 meters, with three rows of seats. The features and interior design will be akin to the new Swift but less premium to maintain affordability. In India, it is expected to be equipped with a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z-series NA petrol engine, delivering 82bhp and 108Nm of torque, with transmission options including a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. Its main competitor will be the Renault Triber, with Nissan also planning to launch a Triber-inspired compact MPV.
Stay tuned as these new MPVs prepare to hit the Indian market, offering more options for family travel and fleet operations.
