Maruti dominates the affordable 7-seater market with models like the Ertiga and XL6 and is now venturing into the premium segment with the Invicto. However, there is a gap between these two offerings. To address this, Maruti is developing a new 7-seater car based on the Grand Vitara, internally codenamed Y17. This new SUV, set to be manufactured at Maruti’s upcoming plant in Kharkoda, Haryana, is expected to be operational by 2025, making the Y17 the first car to roll out from this facility.

The Grand Vitara 7-seater will be built on the Global C-platform, featuring a longer wheelbase to accommodate the third row. It will likely have distinct styling and additional features, including ADAS. The engine options are expected to remain the same, with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a strong hybrid petrol. However, adjustments will be necessary for the hybrid setup to fit the new design. The launch is anticipated after the new-gen Swift, Dzire, and the eVX, with the Grand Vitara 7-seater projected to be priced up to Rs 25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
