This huge SUV is coming to take on the Toyota Fortuner

The Fortuner continues to dominate the full-size SUV market, boasting sales that are ten times higher than its closest competitor. Currently, it appears unbeatable in its segment. However, MG is aiming to challenge this dominance by introducing the Gloster facelift. This new version of the Gloster promises to be larger and superior to the Fortuner. Recently, we obtained a spy shot of the Gloster, revealing intriguing new details. Let’s delve into what the MG Gloster facelift has to offer.

The latest spy shot of the Gloster comes from Bangalore, where the SUV has been frequently seen during testing. The heavily camouflaged vehicle in the image is believed to be the Gloster facelift, based on the LDV90 model sold by SAIC group in Australia. The front design showcases a bold and aggressive look, featuring a muscular grille and eyebrow-style DRLs. Its impressive road presence is expected to provide a competitive edge over the Fortuner. Although the interior has not been revealed, it is anticipated to mirror the LDV90, potentially featuring a new dashboard layout with a floating infotainment system. The current Gloster is already well-equipped, making it challenging to speculate on additional features MG might include.

Regarding specifications, the Gloster facelift is expected to retain its existing engine options. The current Gloster offers two engine choices: a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 159bhp and 370Nm of torque, and a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine delivering 213bhp and 480Nm of peak torque. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Gloster facelift has been spotted multiple times over recent months, and MG has announced plans to launch two new cars in 2024, one of which could be the Gloster facelift. Currently, the SUV is priced between Rs 47 lakh to Rs 53 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). However, with the new updates, an increase in pricing is expected for the facelifted model.
