Thar Driver crashes into a shop, presses accelerator instead of brake

A video shared by Nikhil Rana on his YouTube channel shows a Mahindra Thar SUV crashing into a shop in Kannur, Kerala, after the driver confused the accelerator for the brake. Captured by CCTV, the incident occurred when the driver, possibly new to automatic cars, mistakenly pressed the accelerator while attempting to park, causing the vehicle to surge forward and hit the shop’s glass door. Fortunately, the door remained intact, and no injuries were reported.

The accident highlights common issues faced by inexperienced drivers, particularly when transitioning from manual to automatic cars. The driver, in a panic, pressed the accelerator hard, resulting in the Thar’s rear wheels spinning rapidly before the vehicle rolled back and hit a nearby parked Maruti Ritz. Bystanders quickly checked on the driver and the security guard who was assisting. The video also suggests a possibility of the driver being under the influence, but this remains unconfirmed. The Mahindra Thar, a popular SUV, is available with both manual and automatic transmission options in petrol and diesel variants.
