Tata Motors unveiled the Altroz Racer, positioned as the sportiest iteration of the Altroz hatchback, at the previous year’s Auto Expo. Although it made another appearance at this year’s Bharat Mobility Show with some tweaks, Tata had not disclosed any launch plans at that time. However, it is now confirmed that the Altroz Racer will be hitting the market in the upcoming weeks, adding a new top-spec variant to the Altroz lineup.
One of the key highlights of the Altroz Racer is its 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine, identical to the one found in the Altroz iTurbo but tuned to produce 120hp and 170Nm of torque, representing an increase of 10hp and 30Nm over the iTurbo variant. This engine configuration, akin to that of the Nexon SUV, is expected to be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, deviating from the 5-speed manual transmission in the iTurbo model, positioning it squarely against competitors like the i20 N Line.
In terms of aesthetics and features, the Altroz Racer is anticipated to receive several updates. These include a dual-tone paint scheme with twin racing stripes on the bonnet and roof, ‘Racer’ badging on the front fenders, a revised grille, and redesigned 16-inch alloy wheels. Moreover, the Racer variant is expected to boast an enhanced equipment list, featuring a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, heads-up display, and voice-assisted sunroof. Additionally, new leatherette upholstery with contrast stitching, colored accents on the dashboard, six airbags, and ESC as standard are anticipated. However, these enhancements are likely to come with a price increase, with potential competition from turbo-petrol variants of other models like the Maruti Fronx and the i20 N Line depending on pricing strategies.
