Tata is following the success of resurrecting the Safari by focusing on reviving the Sierra brand. Sierra, a popular SUV known for its 4×4 capabilities, is set to make a comeback in the form of an electric SUV concept unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo. While the electric version of Sierra showcases the SUV’s potential, there is a possibility that Tata may introduce internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrains for the Sierra as well.
Tata Sierra Electric Pickup render, likely to get ICE options
The design of the Tata Sierra electric concept retains the SUV’s core character, which was known for its bold design and commanding presence on the streets back in the 1990s. The electric pickup render also follows the same design philosophy, although it misses out on some unique features of the original Sierra, such as the wrap-around rear window. However, the electric version retains this design highlight while incorporating modifications to accommodate the addition of two extra doors and align with modern design aesthetics.

Although specific details about the powertrain and other specifications of the Sierra electric are yet to be revealed, it is based on Tata’s Gen 2 architecture, a heavily modified version of the ALFA platform. This platform offers flexibility in accommodating various powertrains and drivetrain options.
In the future, if Tata decides to launch ICE versions of the Sierra, it is likely that they may borrow the 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine from the Harrier and Safari models, which generates 170 PS / 350 Nm of torque and is available with both a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, Tata’s new 1.5-liter petrol engine, producing 170 PS and 280 Nm of torque, may also be offered as an option for the Sierra, with both manual and automatic transmission choices available.
