Tata Motors has achieved a significant milestone in the Indian automobile industry as the Nexon becomes the first turbocharged SUV to offer a CNG option. Alongside models like the Punch, Harrier, and Safari, Tata Motors has gained popularity as a leading car brand, surpassing Maruti Suzuki in value. At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, Tata Motors unveiled exciting plans for new vehicles, showcasing their commitment to innovation.
Traditionally associated with regular petrol engines, CNG finds a new application in the Nexon i-CNG concept, featuring a unique 1.2-liter turbocharged engine. This engine delivers 120 PS power and 170 Nm torque when running on petrol, albeit with reduced power on CNG. While the turbo petrol Nexon offers both manual and automatic options, the CNG variant is more limited in choices.
Equipped with two 30-liter tanks, akin to other Tata CNG cars, the Nexon i-CNG maintains its trunk space without compromise. Tata Motors has introduced new safety enhancements such as leak-proof materials and automatic fuel-switching to ensure optimal performance. Priced higher than petrol versions, the Nexon i-CNG commands a premium of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh over the base price of Rs 8.10 lakh.
