Tata vehicles are gaining popularity in the Indian market due to their build quality. However, there are areas where Tata could improve, particularly regarding reliability. Numerous incidents reported online highlight issues with Tata cars, although the manufacturer promptly addresses and attempts to resolve these problems. Recently, another case emerged where an almost new Tata Nexon EV broke down in the middle of a forest due to a loose screw.
Dr. Swathi Venkatraman shared a video on Instagram detailing the incident during a family trip when their nearly new Tata Nexon EV SUV broke down. The video shows the gear lever on the Nexon EV was unresponsive, preventing the car from moving forward or in reverse.
The owner mentioned that although the SUV broke down in a forest, they were not stranded thanks to other family members traveling with them in another car.
After the breakdown, they called for assistance, and RSA towed the car on a flatbed to a service center. Upon inspection, it was discovered that a loose screw in the monoshifter caused the issue.
The dealership’s service staff indicated that the problem could be a manufacturing defect or a result of regular wear and tear. Given the newness of the Nexon EV, the owner suspects it was a manufacturing defect.
The issue was detected and resolved by the service center within 24 hours. The owner was pleased with the prompt resolution but disappointed that such an issue occurred with a relatively new car.
The comment section of the video included several sarcastic remarks like “Typical Tata. Get used to this,” and “Tata logic: safety would be 100% if the car won’t move.” This incident seems not to be isolated, as other Nexon EV customers reported similar issues. One commented, “We should make a group of people who suffer from the gear problem. It’s been 3 months since we bought the Nexon, and I am suffering from the same issue.”
The owner noted that they have learned to be better prepared for such unexpected incidents in the future, indicating a lack of confidence in the product.
Although this may seem like a minor issue, the owner could have been stranded in the forest without a backup vehicle. Being stuck in a remote location with a malfunctioning car is a situation no one wants to experience.
