RTO Seizes converted Toyota Fortuner

Delhi’s strict ban on diesel cars over 10 years old has led to numerous vehicle seizures, with the latest incident involving a first-generation Toyota Fortuner converted to resemble a Fortuner Legender. This trend of converting older models to newer looks has been growing, but a recent video shared by Car Reels India on Instagram shows the authorities towing away such a modified vehicle, highlighting the crackdown on these conversions.

The seized Fortuner, identified as a 12-year-old first-generation model, underscores the challenges owners face in evading the ban. Despite aftermarket shops offering old-to-new conversions to refresh the appearance of reliable vehicles like the Fortuner, these modifications remain illegal without proper RTO approvals. The recent incident serves as a cautionary tale for owners, as authorities intensify their efforts to enforce the ban.

The 10-year diesel ban currently applies to regions including Haryana, U.P., and Delhi’s NCT, with many converted vehicles evading detection due to their convincing new-look exteriors. However, during police checks, discrepancies in registration details often lead to the seizure of such cars. As the ban remains regional, owners in unaffected states continue to drive their converted vehicles without immediate concern.
