The Volkswagen Group subsidiary overseeing the group’s strategy in India is intensifying its commitment to the market by entering the competitive sub-four-meter compact SUV segment and launching electric vehicles (EVs).
Czech carmaker Skoda Auto, a part of the Volkswagen Group, has maintained modest profit expectations for India despite being present in the market for over two decades. While acknowledging the importance of profitability, Skoda’s top official stated that the main target is not profit but enhancing the brand’s footprint and increasing its presence in the market.
The company plans to introduce a compact SUV in the first half of 2025, aiming to boost volumes and make its India operation more sustainable. Skoda is also exploring EV possibilities in India, considering partnerships for developing affordable EV models.
The company intends to launch at least six EV models globally by 2027, with the Enyaq, a premium electric SUV, being introduced in the interim period. Skoda’s EV strategy for India will be phased, adapting to the dynamic EV landscape in the country and globally.
