At a recent official gathering, Union Minister of Road, Transport, and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, reiterated his push to reduce GST on hybrid vehicles and phase out petrol and diesel cars in India. Despite acknowledging the challenge, Gadkari expressed optimism in achieving this goal, emphasizing the importance of promoting biofuels. He highlighted the staggering ₹16 lakh crore spent on fuel imports annually and stressed the potential of biofuels to enhance self-sufficiency, benefit farmers, and create employment opportunities.
Gadkari’s ambitious vision aligns with efforts to promote biofuel usage in the country. He emphasized the economic and environmental benefits of reducing dependence on fossil fuels, particularly in electricity production. Gadkari also mentioned ongoing efforts to lower the GST on hybrid vehicles, citing proposals sent to the finance ministry for consideration. He highlighted initiatives by leading manufacturers to produce motorcycles with flex engines and commercial vehicles running on hydrogen fuels, along with the proliferation of bio-CNG factories nationwide.
