Spotted outside the Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC) in Oragadam, Chennai, the eighth-generation BMW 5 Series, codenamed G60, has been sighted in India ahead of its anticipated launch during the festive season. Despite rumors suggesting a potential introduction of the long-wheelbase variant, the vehicle captured in recent images appears to be the standard wheelbase version, poised to rival the Mercedes-Benz E-Class in the Indian market.
Expected to be available with a choice of 2.0-liter turbo-petrol and diesel engines, the new 5 Series is reported to feature both powertrains coupled with a mild-hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. This lineup promises a blend of performance and efficiency tailored to meet the diverse needs of Indian consumers.
Furthermore, there’s anticipation surrounding the possible inclusion of the i5 eDrive40 variant, equipped with an 81.2 kWh battery boasting an impressive range of up to 582 km on a single charge. If introduced, this electric variant could mark a significant step towards sustainability while offering an appealing option for environmentally-conscious buyers in the luxury sedan segment.
