Nexon Diesel engine in Tata Curvv launching this year

Tata Curvv Expected Price ₹ 10.50 Lakh, 2024 Launch Date, Bookings in India

Tata Motors is reportedly gearing up to launch a diesel-powered variant of its Curvv SUV alongside the previously showcased electric and petrol versions. The Curvv EV is expected to be the first to hit the market in the second half of the current year, followed by the diesel and turbo-petrol iterations.

The diesel engine anticipated for the Curvv is the 115hp, 260Nm, 1.5-liter unit already employed in the Nexon, coupled with either a 6-speed manual or an AMT. Tata Motors’ decision to include a diesel variant aligns with the acknowledgment that diesel still constitutes around 24 percent of the midsize SUV segment. This strategic move positions the Curvv to compete directly with popular midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, both offering diesel engine options.

The Nexon’s diesel engine underwent upgrades to comply with BS6.2 emissions norms, incorporating a cost-effective Passive Selective Catalytic Reduction system as an alternative to the pricier SCR system. Tata Motors aims to capitalize on the availability of diesel, electric, and petrol powertrain options to secure a substantial share in the fiercely competitive midsize SUV market.

Insider information suggests that series production of the Curvv is slated to commence around April 2024 at Tata Motors’ Ranjangaon plant near Pune. The company has set an ambitious sales target of approximately 48,000 units for the Curvv SUV, with an estimated 12,000 units expected from the Curvv EV alone.
