In response to the implementation of BS6 Phase II emission norms, Honda Cars India currently features three vehicles in its lineup, with the Amaze serving as the entry-level sedan. The sub-4m sedan is preparing for the future with the upcoming launch of a new generation model expected around the festive season. Honda Cars India has seen success with the recently launched Elevate SUV, contributing to strong sales figures domestically and internationally. The portfolio includes the Amaze sub-4m sedan, the City C-segment sedan, and the Elevate C-segment SUV, with the Amaze positioned as the smallest and most affordable Honda car in India.
The third-gen Amaze is reportedly shifting away from its current platform, opting for a modified version of the City platform with a smaller wheelbase. This strategic move enables Honda to consolidate its entire lineup on a single platform, ensuring cost-effectiveness and economies of scale. The shared platform will extend to components and parts, aligning with the City sedan and Elevate SUV.
Design-wise, the upcoming Amaze is expected to share design elements with the current global models such as the Accord or Civic, possibly featuring coupe-style sloping roof designs seen in the global Civic and Accord, including the Civic Hatchback. The interior is slated for a redesign, incorporating modern features like a larger free-standing touchscreen. While advanced features like a sunroof, fully digital instrument cluster, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) may be excluded, Honda aims to prioritize reliability and efficiency. A recent long-term review of the Honda Amaze emphasized the brand’s proficiency in fundamental aspects, with expectations for additional features like rear AC vents, rear adjustable headrests, and a front center armrest in the upcoming model.
The powertrain is likely to retain the 1.2L 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 5-speed MT and CVT, known for its smooth performance, fuel efficiency, and capability, offering around 90 hp and 110 Nm of torque. The launch is anticipated during the festive season, with an expected price increase reflecting the introduction of new features and enhancements.
