The newly launched Windsor EV from JSW MG Motor India has quickly become the best-selling electric vehicle in the country, surpassing popular models like the Tata Nexon EV and Punch EV. To further strengthen its position, MG is set to introduce a new 50.3 kWh battery pack option for the Windsor EV, which is expected to launch in April this year.
This larger battery, already offered in the MG ZS EV, is anticipated to deliver an extended range of 461 km on a full charge. Currently, the Windsor EV comes with a 38 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a claimed range of 331 km and powered by a 136 bhp, 200 Nm electric motor that drives the front wheels. However, it remains unclear whether the upgraded variant will feature a more powerful motor or retain the existing one.
The 38 kWh battery can be charged from 0% to 80% in 55 minutes using a 50 kW DC charger, while a full charge via an AC charger takes 6.5 to 7.4 hours. In contrast, the upcoming 50.3 kW
h battery will allow an 80% charge in just 46 minutes, though a full charge via an AC charger will take approximately 16 hours.
Currently, the Windsor EV is priced between ₹13.99 lakh and ₹15.99 lakh, and the larger battery variant is expected to command an additional premium of ₹1-1.5 lakh. It remains uncertain whether the new battery option will be available across all three variants of the Windsor EV.
