The Maruti Suzuki Fronx, launched in April 2023 after its debut at the Auto Expo, quickly gained popularity, achieving 1 lakh domestic sales in just 10 months and doubling this figure within the following seven months. Riding this wave of success, Maruti Suzuki expanded the Fronx’s reach to international markets, including Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Notably, it became Maruti Suzuki’s second model to be exported to Japan, following the Baleno’s entry in 2016. Competing with rivals like the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch, the Fronx is set to play a crucial role in Maruti’s plans for hybrid and electric vehicle growth, especially as the company prepares for a stronger hybrid lineup.

The upcoming Fronx facelift, expected next year, is anticipated to debut Maruti’s strong hybrid technology, featuring the Z12E engine, which is also used in the new Swift. This will make it India’s first sub-four-metre SUV with a hybrid system, boasting an estimated fuel efficiency above 35 kmpl, alongside other subtle design and interior updates.
Looking further, Maruti plans to introduce hybrid versions of other popular models like the Baleno and Swift in the coming years, as well as a new compact MPV by 2026. The brand’s HEV system, designed for ease and affordability, aims to bridge the gap towards full electrification by offering improved fuel economy and practicality in the Indian market.
