A growing number of off-roading enthusiasts have chosen to buy the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, primarily for its impressive off-road capabilities. However, these capabilities come at the cost of lower fuel efficiency compared to other Maruti Suzuki models. To address this, a recent video has emerged online showing an owner fitting a CNG kit into his automatic Jimny to improve its fuel economy.
The video, shared on YouTube by Carscrew, shows the vlogger taking his Jimny to a CNG installation shop in Sonipat, Haryana. He claims that his is the first automatic Jimny in India to be fitted with an aftermarket CNG kit. The video begins by showing the custom bracket installed in the rear to hold the CNG tank securely, reducing the risk of rattling noises. Moving to the front, the shop owner explains that installing the CNG kit in the Jimny is no more difficult than in any other car.
The video then covers various details of the installation, including the placement of the reducer on the firewall and two filling points, one at the front and one near the rear fuel filler cap. After the CNG kit installation is completed, they fill the tank with CNG worth around ₹750. The vehicle is then returned to the shop for final adjustments, including programming the ECU of the CNG kit. The shop owner estimates that the Jimny with the new CNG kit will achieve a mileage of around 25 kmpl. In its stock form, the Jimny is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 105 hp and 134 Nm of torque, with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission, and offers a fuel efficiency of 16-17 kmpl.
