Many features that were once exclusive to luxury cars are now becoming common in more affordable models. Examples include sunroofs, ambient lighting, and ventilated seats. The latest feature set to make this transition is the full-screen dashboard layout. Currently available in high-end Mercedes electric vehicles, this feature may soon appear in Mahindra’s upcoming XUV700 electric or XUV.e8, as the company has patented the design.
Mercedes’ Hyperscreen and Mahindra’s Design
Mercedes’ triple-screen dashboard, known as the ‘Hyperscreen,’ is featured in their EQE and EQS electric models. This layout includes a significantly larger central screen flanked by two smaller ones. In contrast, Mahindra’s version will consist of three 12.3-inch screens. This setup, similar to the XUV700’s dual-screen arrangement, will add an extra screen for the co-passenger and incorporate AC vents on both sides. Additionally, a cutout on the upper dashboard is likely intended for a heads-up display, mirroring a feature seen in XUV700 electric test mules.
Additional Features and Specifications
Mahindra’s new patent also includes a two-spoke steering wheel with a digital logo at its center. The XUV700 electric will retain the HVAC controls and buttons from its petrol and diesel counterparts. Expected specifications for the XUV700 EV include an 80kW motor with all-wheel drive technology, while lower variants may feature a front-wheel-drive setup.

Launch and Pricing Expectations
Mahindra has announced the tentative launch timelines for its Born Electric series, with the XUV.e8 or XUV700 electric expected to debut by December 2024. Given the design patents and the increased frequency of spy shots, Mahindra appears to be on track to meet this timeline. The starting price for the XUV700 electric is anticipated to be around Rs 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
