Mahindra debuted the 5-door version of its popular Thar SUV on August 15, 2024, four years after launching the 3-door model. This new variant, possibly named the ‘Thar Armada’, aims to cater better to family needs and could shake up the SUV market across different segments. While retaining the basic design and features of the 3-door model, the 5-door Thar will feature specific changes such as a refreshed grille and bumpers to distinguish itself.
The 5-door Thar will sport a longer size and wheelbase along with additional doors, providing more space and convenience for families. Expectations include larger wheels, pillar-mounted rear door handles, and potentially running boards for a distinctive side profile. Inside, there will be significant updates such as a larger touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and enhanced comfort features like auto-dimming rearview mirror and redesigned central console.

Under the hood, the 5-door Thar is likely to feature the same engine options as the 3-door model, including a 2.0-liter petrol and a 2.2-liter diesel engine. Initially, it may only be available in 4×4 format, with the possibility of a 4×2 variant later. With its iconic design and family-friendly features, the 5-door Thar aims to stand out in the market, potentially impacting both lifestyle off-roaders and compact SUVs.
