Mahindra currently offers two versions of the Thar in India: the classic three-door model and the newly launched Thar Roxx. While deliveries of the Roxx have not yet begun, it is generating considerable excitement, with various media outlets and YouTube channels creating content around it. A recent video by “Power On Wheel” features a drag race between the Thar Roxx and the 3-door Thar, showcasing their performance differences.
In the video, the Thar Roxx, which features a re-tuned engine, a new platform, and other mechanical enhancements, outperformed the 3-door Thar in both rounds of the drag race. Despite its larger size and weight, the Roxx’s 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine, in a higher state of tune (152 PS and 330 Nm), provided a performance edge over the regular Thar’s 132 PS and 300 Nm output. The 3-door Thar’s off-road tires might have also affected its performance during the race.
Both the Thar Roxx and the 3-door Thar share the same engine options: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mStallion and a 2.2-litre diesel mHawk. However, the Roxx benefits from higher power output across its engine lineup, with the petrol engine producing up to 174 bhp and 380 Nm, and the diesel delivering 172 bhp and 370 Nm. While the 3-door Thar is available in 4WD for both petrol and diesel versions, the Roxx offers both RWD and 4WD variants, with 4WD reserved for its diesel models.
