Mahindra is preparing to introduce the Thar 5-door variant in the Indian market around mid-2024, with an initial offering likely to feature a 4×4 configuration. Recent reports suggest that upon its launch, all versions of the Thar 5-door will come equipped with a 4×4 transfer case as standard, with the possibility of a limited-slip rear differential being available on the top-spec trim.
The upcoming Thar 5-door model will retain the same engine options as its 3-door counterpart. This includes a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 130 BHP and 300 Nm of torque, along with a 2.0-litre petrol engine generating 150 BHP and 300-320 Nm of torque. Both engine options are expected to be paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
However, it remains uncertain whether Mahindra will offer the 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Thar 5-door variant. This smaller engine delivers 117 BHP and 300 Nm of torque and is currently paired with a 6-speed manual transmission in the entry-level Thar 3-door model. The availability of this engine option in the Thar 5-door lineup is yet to be confirmed.
