The Mahindra Thar, a popular SUV in India, has been selling well with monthly averages exceeding 5,700 units. Despite a backlog of approximately 71,000 units, Mahindra has increased production, reducing waiting times notably.
For the Thar 4×2 (RWD) diesel model, the waiting period is now 10-11 months, while for the petrol version, it’s 5-6 months, a significant improvement from the 15-16 month waits reported earlier. Prices for the Thar 4×2 range from Rs 11.25 lakh to Rs 13.99 lakh.
On the other hand, the Thar 4×4 variants have a much shorter waiting period of 2-3 months. They come with either a 152hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine or a 132hp, 2.2-litre diesel engine, and offer optional 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. Thar 4×4 petrol prices range from Rs 14.30 lakh to Rs 16.60 lakh, while diesel versions are priced between Rs 15.00 lakh to Rs 17.20 lakh, depending on the variant and features.
