A consumer panel in Kerala has instructed Maruti Suzuki India Limited to refund the cost of a car sold to a customer, as its airbag failed to deploy during an accident three years ago.
The Malappuram District Consumer Commission issued the order based on a complaint filed by Mohammed Musliar. The complainant asserted that the manufacturer was at fault for the airbag’s failure to deploy, resulting in serious injuries. The commission mandated a refund of Rs 4,35,854, the vehicle’s price, and Rs 20,000 as litigation costs.
If the order is not implemented within a month, nine percent interest will be applicable.
