India-spec VW Tayron interior spied, India launch soon

New spy shots of the Volkswagen Tayron, captured in China, offer a glimpse into the interior of the upcoming seven-seater SUV, which is essentially an elongated version of the latest-generation Tiguan. Scheduled to debut as the Tiguan L Pro in China before arriving in India in 2025, the Tayron shares the MQB EVO platform with the Tiguan, marking it as the spiritual successor to the Tiguan AllSpace on a global scale.

The interior of the Tayron mirrors that of the Tiguan, boasting a sleek and minimalistic dashboard dominated by three screens: the main infotainment system, the digital instrument cluster, and one on the passenger side. The infotainment display features a backlit slider controller, akin to the Tiguan, while the centre console hosts a wireless charging pad, a drive selector dial, audio controls, and cupholders. The cabin exudes an upscale ambiance with soft-touch materials, contrast stitching, and sports seats, although these images do not showcase the seven-seater layout or the spaciousness of the second and third rows.

Underpinned by Volkswagen’s MQB EVO platform, the Tayron is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with various power outputs and a potential 2.0-litre diesel option for select markets. All powertrains feature a 48V mild-hybrid setup and offer either 4WD or 2WD configurations. Moreover, Volkswagen plans to introduce two plug-in hybrid variants with an electric-only range exceeding 100km, utilizing a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 19.7kWh battery pack. In India, the Tayron is anticipated to launch in 2025, positioned as a competitor to the Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq, with local assembly via CKD kits.
