A media report suggests that Hyundai is planning to venture into the hybrid vehicle segment in India by 2027. The South Korean automaker aims to introduce hybrid powertrains to its product lineup to meet the growing global demand for such vehicles.
According to the report, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chairman Euisun Chung recently addressed employees in India, highlighting the significance of hybrids in the company’s portfolio for the country.
While specific details of Hyundai’s future plans for India remain undisclosed, the report indicates that the automaker may introduce hybrid powertrain options with a speculated 35 kmpl of mileage for models like the Verna, Creta, Alzacar, and Tucson in the next decade.
If confirmed, this shift in strategy would mark a significant departure from Hyundai’s initial focus on pure electric vehicles for the Indian market. Meanwhile, Kia has already committed to introducing hybrids in India.
