The Hyundai Creta has long maintained its status as the top-selling SUV in its segment, recently surpassing the remarkable milestone of 1.1 million units sold, highlighting its stronghold in the SUV market.
Consistent Sales Growth
Despite fierce competition, the Creta has continued to evolve with changing customer demands and market trends. First introduced in July 2015, it quickly became one of Hyundai’s most successful models in India. In its first year, Hyundai sold 40,952 units of the Creta, averaging 5,850 units monthly. In 2016, sales surged to 92,926 units, marking a 32.38% year-on-year growth in monthly sales. The upward trend continued in 2017, with 1,05,484 units sold, reflecting a 13.51% increase over the previous year. The launch of the facelifted first-generation Creta in 2018 boosted sales to 1,20,905 units, a 14.62% growth year-on-year.
Sales dipped in 2019 and 2020, with 99,736 and 96,989 units sold, respectively, due to an economic slowdown and COVID-19 lockdowns. However, Hyundai saw a strong comeback in 2021, selling 1,25,437 units, a 29.34% year-on-year increase and the highest volume at that time. This growth continued in 2022 with 1,40,895 units sold and again in 2023 with 1,57,309 units.
The latest generation of the Creta, launched in January 2024, has set new records, outperforming previous models and every competitor in its segment. By September 2024, Hyundai had sold 1,41,362 units of the 2024 Creta, averaging an all-time high of 15,707 units per month. This puts it on track to achieve its best annual sales yet.
Staying Ahead of Competitors
Since its debut in 2015, the Hyundai Creta has consistently led its segment, redefining the SUV experience for Indian buyers and challenging the traditional image of SUVs as large, inefficient, and challenging to drive in cities. The Creta’s success lies in its blend of a high-riding stance with city-friendly handling, strong fuel efficiency, stylish design, reliable performance, and advanced features—all offered at a competitive price. This winning combination has established the Creta as a pioneer in the SUV market, a feat that competing brands have struggled to match.
