The Ford EcoSport, once a popular SUV in India, Europe, and South America, saw its production come to an end in 2021 as part of Ford’s exit from the Indian market. The discontinuation of the EcoSport was accompanied by the closure of the Tamil Nadu plant, which was the last facility producing the SUV for both domestic and export markets. Subsequently, in December 2022, production of the EcoSport also ceased at Ford’s Craiova factory in Romania.
To fill the gap left by the EcoSport’s departure, Ford has announced plans to introduce a new B-segment SUV, likely to be the next-generation EcoSport, at its Almussafes factory in Valencia, Spain. This upcoming SUV is expected to feature electrified petrol powertrains, offering a hybrid setup to cater to evolving market demands. Positioned to compete with models like the Renault Duster, the new EcoSport is anticipated to be around 4.3 meters in length, similar to its European counterparts.
Set to debut globally by mid-2025, the new EcoSport aims to address the lower-end of the B-segment SUV market, where Ford previously had a presence with the EcoSport. While specific details about the vehicle remain scarce, further information is expected to emerge closer to its launch. Meanwhile, Ford’s focus on reintroducing SUVs, such as the Everest, signals its efforts to re-establish itself in markets like India.
