The Delhi government has imposed a temporary ban on all BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel vehicles until further notice. However, this restriction does not apply to vehicles serving Emergency Services, Police vehicles, and government vehicles used for enforcement purposes.

Vehicle owners who disregard this directive will face legal consequences under Section 194(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, which entails a fine of Rs 20,000.

This decision follows the activation of Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the National Capital Region (NCR). The air quality in the area has been deteriorating in recent days, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching ‘Severe’ levels.
