According to a recent media report, BMW is contemplating the discontinuation of manual transmissions in their M performance models. Frank Weber, a Board Member of BMW, indicated that the future of manual transmission BMW M models is uncertain, stating, “It’s over.” Weber cited economic factors and customer demand as driving forces behind the shift towards automatic transmissions.
The declining popularity of manual transmissions, now limited to a small niche, is a key factor influencing this decision. Weber emphasized, “They are fun products, but let’s be honest, the volumes are getting smaller and smaller, and so it doesn’t make sense to develop them anymore.”
He advised those interested in a manual M model to make their purchase promptly.
