When Skoda re-launched the Superb sedan in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 54 lakh, it raised quite a few eyebrows. At that price, the 2025 Kodiaq seemed like a more sensible option, leading to speculation about its launch. Now, Skoda seems to be addressing that speculation, as the new Kodiaq has been spotted testing in India.
The Indian automotive market has long favored SUVs, prompting many manufacturers to focus on this body style. Skoda currently offers the Kushaq SUV and the Slavia sedan in India, both based on its MQB A0 IN platform, along with the completely built unit (CBU) Kodiaq. Additionally, Skoda is developing a sub-4m SUV that has been seen multiple times.
2025 Skoda Kodiaq – Design and Features
When Skoda previously launched the Superb, there was a desire for similar efforts to be made for the new 2025 Kodiaq. As a premium SUV, it would have presented a stronger sales proposition, and Skoda might consider importing more than the current 100 units. Presently, Skoda sells the first-generation Kodiaq in India, but recent spy shots suggest the second-generation Kodiaq will be launched soon.
The second-generation Kodiaq test mule was spotted on the Pune-Mumbai expressway with no camouflage and featured body-colored B-pillars, which might be a plastic film to prevent scratches.
2025 Skoda Kodiaq – Specifications
The 2025 Skoda Kodiaq is larger than its predecessor, being 18 mm narrower and 17 mm shorter in height, giving it a slightly station wagon-like appearance. Its length has increased by 61 mm to 4,758 mm, while the wheelbase remains at 2,971 mm. The boot space is substantial, offering 940 liters with the 5-seater model and 340 liters with the 7-seater model. When the rear seats are folded flat, the 5-seater model boasts 2,105 liters, and the 7-seater offers 2,035 liters of boot space. The revised styling aligns with newer Skoda vehicles, featuring significant design changes on the sides and rear, with wheels up to 20 inches in size.
2025 Skoda Kodiaq – Interior and Features
Inside, the new Kodiaq has been significantly modernized. It now features an optional 13-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system and a 10-inch digital instrument cluster. Other notable features include a gear selector on the steering column, a more practical center console, leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, a Canton audio system with 14 speakers, ventilated and massaging seats, and more.
Launch and Engine Details
The 2025 Skoda Kodiaq is expected to launch in India by the end of this year or early 2025. It could appeal to buyers looking for a sophisticated alternative to ladder-frame SUVs. If launched, it will likely be powered by the same 200-horsepower 2.0L TSI engine with an AWD layout. It remains uncertain whether Skoda will import the new Kodiaq via the CBU route or the CKD route.
