Volkswagen Polo, which hit the Indian market in 2010, quickly became a favorite among Volkswagen enthusiasts for its nimble handling, lively performance, and sturdy build. However, it was discontinued in 2022 due to dwindling sales and stiff competition from more advanced models.
Despite its discontinuation, Volkswagen Polo still holds a special place in the hearts of many fans who eagerly inquire about its possible return. Ashish Gupta, Volkswagen’s Brand Director, addressed this at the 2024 VW Annual Brand Conference, hinting at potential future possibilities.

Gupta mentioned that while there are no immediate plans to revive the Polo, it could make a comeback in a different avatar, possibly as an SUV or an electric vehicle. However, he emphasized that relaunching the original Polo might not align with Volkswagen’s current India 2.0 strategy, which focuses on the premium segment.
Instead, the brand is concentrating on models like the Taigun compact SUV and the Virtus sedan, which have been well-received. Additionally, there’s uncertainty whether a relaunched Polo would meet sales targets or fit into Volkswagen’s evolving global strategies.
