Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to introduce the next-generation Swift in India, with an official launch expected next month. Prior to its domestic debut, the hatchback has already gained traction internationally, with various online videos showcasing its features. Recent reports shed light on the Swift’s performance in a crash test conducted by Japan NCAP, where it earned an impressive 4-star rating. The examination, shared by the Cruise Control YouTube channel, included rigorous evaluations of the vehicle’s active safety features, such as automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist, all of which passed without issues.
The tests further assessed the Swift’s ability to detect obstacles, including cyclists and pedestrians, both in daylight and low light conditions. Notably, the car demonstrated effective braking even when the driver’s vision was impaired by oncoming headlights. Subsequent crash tests at speeds ranging from 50 to 64 km/h revealed the hatchback’s robust build quality, with airbags deploying promptly and structural integrity remaining intact, despite frontal damage. Although the Indian variant may omit certain advanced features like ADAS, it’s expected to mirror the exterior and interior design of its international counterpart.

Upon its Indian release, the all-new Swift will be powered by a 1.2-liter, naturally aspirated engine, potentially equipped with mild hybrid technology for enhanced efficiency and urban performance. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox, with the possibility of a series hybrid variant introduced later, following the footsteps of Maruti’s upcoming Fronx model. Unofficial bookings for the new Swift have already commenced at select Maruti dealerships, indicating anticipation for its arrival in the Indian market.
