2024 Kia Seltos – Better than Creta

KIA SELTOS FACELIFT

When we think of a “facelift,” we envision subtle adjustments akin to a nip and tuck, coupled with enhancements to features. Similarly, the initial impression of the Kia Seltos might suggest a comparable sentiment with its refreshed styling, interiors, and expanded features list. However, beneath the surface, significant changes have occurred, including the introduction of a new 1.5 turbo-petrol engine, updates to the suspension, and larger wheels, marking notable improvements.

Since its debut in 2019, the competitive landscape has evolved, welcoming new SUVs like the Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Mahindra XUV700, and Tata Harrier into the market. While the Hyundai Creta continues to dominate sales, contenders like the MG Astor, Honda Elevate, and Citroen C3 Aircross await their turn. In this evolving context, the Seltos must elevate its game.

The updated Seltos impresses with subtle yet impactful styling changes, maintaining its appeal while modernizing its appearance. Notable adjustments include revised headlamps, bumpers, and taillamps, with dynamic turn indicators adding a touch of flair. The increased wheel size, particularly on the GTX+ variant, enhances driving dynamics significantly. Moreover, the GT Line and X Line variants offer distinct styling elements catering to varied preferences.

Internally, the Seltos undergoes a comprehensive update to its features list, addressing previous shortcomings. Additions like a panoramic sunroof, digital cluster, dual-zone climate control, and electronic parking brake enhance its allure. The interior exudes quality, featuring a generous display interface and comfortable seating. The GT Line’s blacked-out interior and the X Line’s unique upholstery contribute to a personalized experience. Although rear space remains satisfactory, some users may find the bench lacking in thigh support.

The highlight of the update lies in the new 1.5 turbo-petrol engine, offering increased power and torque. Paired with either an iMT or DCT transmission, it delivers spirited performance, especially in urban settings. The diesel engine, while retaining its outputs, maintains efficiency and range, appealing to a different demographic. Both engines offer smooth acceleration, with the turbo-petrol displaying a sportier demeanor.

Compared to the 2024 Creta, the Seltos showcases advancements in performance, features, and styling, positioning itself as a compelling choice in the competitive SUV segment.
