2024 Hyundai Creta applies sudden brakes automatically, scares everyone in the car

A Hyundai Creta user had such an experience yesterday when he got a chance to see the proper FCCA mechanism in action.

Although it had been turned on for the last two months since he got the car, his usual daily drive in Bangalore city traffic had never activated it. He had seen the ‘Collision Detected’ warning a couple of times, but since the speed was very low, he would apply the brakes, and the warning would disappear.

Yesterday, he was driving through Hosur Road (the long straight stretch close to the Hosa Road signal) with medium traffic as it was a Sunday. His speed was around 40/50kmph when suddenly a courier van cut across from the left side and came in front of him, continuing to move forward.

He got the collision detected warning in MID but didn’t bother to apply the brakes or take his foot off the accelerator since he knew there wouldn’t be a collision based on his speed and the van’s speed. However, ADAS applied the emergency brakes with a ‘krrrr’ sound. The car didn’t come to an instant complete halt but reduced his speed to maybe 5-10kmph or below, after which he applied the brakes and stopped. Everyone in the car got scared and thought that their car had hit something. Luckily, there was no vehicle behind them, so nothing untoward happened.
