2024 BMW M340i – Most VFM Performance Car

2024 bmw m340i

The BMW M340i has achieved notable success in India due to its adept bridging of the gap between the 3 Series long-wheelbase family sedan and the high-performance M4 Competition, all while maintaining a price point closer to the standard 3 Series.

Its performance capabilities closely align with those of the full-fledged M cars, contributing to its popularity. With the mid-life update, known as ‘LCI’ or ‘Life Cycle Impulse’, the M340i has undergone enhancements that further refine its winning formula.

The M340i LCI features redesigned LED headlamps with twin-inverted L-shaped DRLs, a refreshed front grille with new honeycomb elements, and a sculpted front bumper for a more aggressive stance. Notably, the addition of new 19-inch alloys with floating BMW hub caps, reminiscent of Rolls Royce, adds to its allure.

The ‘M’ treatment is evident with signature light blue brake calipers, ‘M’ badges, and gloss black mirror casings resembling carbon fiber units. The rear bumper now boasts larger twin exhaust housings and a beefier diffuser, enhancing its sporty aesthetic.

Internally, a new twin-screen setup infuses modernity and desirability into the cabin, with crisp displays and responsive interfaces. Wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, in-built navigation, and the BMW voice assistant augment the user experience. The climate control buttons have been replaced by touchscreen controls, and the gear selector is now a stubby toggle switch, enhancing functionality and aesthetics.

The interior ambiance is further elevated with carbon fiber trims and Alcantara materials on the seats and roof liner, exuding a sportscar vibe. The front seats feature harder cushioning and electrically adjustable side bolstering for improved support during cornering.

Despite being based on the short-wheelbase 3 Series sedan, the M340i offers ample rear space and a sizable 480-liter boot capacity.

Under the hood, BMW’s renowned 3-liter inline 6-cylinder turbo-petrol engine has been updated with a 48V mild-hybrid system, delivering 374hp and 500Nm of torque. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the M340i accelerates from 0-100kph in 4.4 seconds, offering exhilarating performance. Its well-balanced handling, aided by the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, M-sport rear differential, variable sport steering, and upgraded brakes, makes it a thrilling driving experience.

While the M340i’s firmer ride quality and run-flat tires may compromise comfort slightly, it remains manageable and agile on the road. Priced competitively at Rs 69.20 lakh and locally assembled, it outperforms its closest rival, the Audi S5 Sportback, offering superior power and standard features. In summary, the BMW M340i sets a new standard by delivering exceptional value and performance beyond expectations.
